Starting at about 3:30 am Saturday, September 8th forty-eight Pro and Semi Pro Bass Anglers flowed into the launch area of Galesville Reservoir for the 2007 Oregon Black Bass Action Committee Open. This fishing tournament is usually a sell out as this year's event was. A full field of twenty-four boats with two competitors to each boat blasted off at safe flight under the direction of Lonnie Johnson, tournament director and president of the OBBAC. The Oregon Black Bass Action Committee is made up of an all volunteer membership that's dedicated to improve bass fisheries in Southern Oregon. Proceeds from this and other events help to finance projects such as restocking, habitat and launch ramp improvements. The OBBAC also is involved with youth and angler education.

The weather was crisp and cool in the am hours. The wind was nil and the water blanketed with about 40 inches of ground fog till about 8:45 am. Most competitors reported having caught their fish prior to direct sun rays hitting the water. After about 10 am the skies were clear and what bite there was seemingly was over. Only a few were able to cull and make an upgrade to their catch after that time.

A variety of techniques were use. Free falling SENKOS, Drop Shot, and Texas Rigged KREATURES seamed to be the most productive that day.

Weigh In was held at 3 pm sharp. 5th place went to Bruce Graff and Jesse Smith from Grants Pass. Fourth place went to Jim Henry and Jim Wright of the Roseburg area representing the Mid Oregon Bass Club. Third Place plus BIG FISH went to Mike Price and Bill Bryant. Second Place honors went to Giggs Benn and Charlie Albritton of South Douglas County. Top Honors were won by Duke Barris and Jim Rainey of Medford. A special award of Big Small Mouth went to Tim and Sheri Kennedy.

OBBAC president Lonnie Johnson explains that any one can participate in this annual event and that you don't have to be a member of any organized club to do so. He also sends out a special thank you to MID OREGON BASS of Roseburg for providing the insurance policy this year's event.
