Salmon Fishing… Oregon Coast -Fall 2007

Fishing Report from Gold Beach:

This year the returning numbers of fall Chinook seems to be a little lower then years past, that according to Jim Carey of the Rogue Outdoor Store in Gold Beach. However quality fish are being caught most in the 20lb class. Reports of 30 to 40 lb fish have also been landed this week.

"Normally our run begins in July, however this years fish are returning a little bit later," says Carey. "September this year so far has been good." Carey reports 30 to 35 fish per day are currently being caught in the bay.

From the Big K Ranch:

Scott Wolfe, lead guide at the Big –K reports Small Mouth Bass are still being caught in good numbers there and all along the Umpqua. Jerk baits, spinner baits tubes and senkos are all working well. Some fall Chinook have been spotted and predicted to be more active as the fall rains begin and water temperatures get cooler.

From The Coquille:

Local anglers have reported good catches of Chinook in the tide waters of the Coquile River. Dell Drake and Jim Cook of Winston plus Marilyn Slater of Myrtle Creek boated some nice ones Tuesday 9-11-07. The first fish hit at about noon. Dell's, weighing just under 20lbs. Next was Marilyn's at about 3pm.It weighed 30 plus lbs. as did Jims' that was boated at about 5pm.

Trolling plug cut hearing and working the tide was their method .
