Fishing Report 9-20-2007
Fishing Report from Gold Beach:
Reports of recent flat seas have allowed anglers to bring in good catches of bottom fish. Red Fin Perch are still being caught but numbers are tapering off.
According to Jim Carey of the Rogue Outdoor Store in Gold Beach, quality Fall Chinook fish are being caught in the bay, most in the 20lb class. Reports of larger fish have also been landed this week.
"This time of year expect to see about 50 boats per day trolling the bay", says Carey. "September this year so far has been good." Carey reports 30 to 35 fish per day are currently being caught there. "Silvers are just starting to come in and their numbers should be increasing", he says. Trolling 5 inch anchovies, Rogue River Rigs, Hot Shots and Wee Warts are all productive.
From Reedsport:
John Swanson of Swede's Guide Service had a trip last week and reports having caught 3 nice Fall Chinook. "The big run hasn't begun yet. The run on the Umpqua usually starts in October", says Swanson. "Most guides and charters are quite capable of putting their guest on the early fish." He reports crabbing has been good.
From Lemolo Lake Resort:
Three to Five lb German Brown Trout are stacking up in the North Umpqua arm of the lake, that according to Scott Lamb, owner of Lemolo Lake Resort. He reports O.D.F.W. has recently planted 1000 trophy sized rainbows there. "Anglers are doing well trolling worms, grubs and flies. Also pitching Rapalas, Vicious Voodoos, and Wicked Widows.
From Diamond Lake:
The temperatures are getting cooler and trolling has been good at Diamond Lake. Rick Rockholt from the lodge says the best fishing is at the south end just outside the weed line in about 20 feet of water. He strongly suggest power bait in fluorescent orange or chartreuse. Night crawlers and marsh mellows are also working good.
The Resorts Charter Boat has been limiting each trip. Most fish are in the 2lb class. Big fish this week weighed in at 6.25 lbs.
